IBEX RANGE, INYO COUNTY

About 1 to 1-1/4 miles west of Salisbury Pass (east of Death Valley) a fairly good dirt road leads almost due south, gradually rising towards the hills in the immediate distance. Proceed until the road becomes too rough. Ibex Peak lies to the left of the road at about 10 o'clock. Continue hiking along the road to a low saddle. From here two routes can be followed. One can immediately take the sloping ridge to the left (east) and follow it in a crescentic curve, curving southeast, then southwest to the summit. Or one can continue south down from the saddle for about one third of a mile and then turn east up easy and interesting wash and climb directly from the head of this canyon to the summit. It would be interesting to go up one way and come dawn the other.

Ibex is higher then nearby Sheephead Mountain. The round trip is about 5-1/2 to 6 miles. Personally I do not feel it is worthy of DPS status.
